Employee Profile – Geoffrey Kuek

We are thrilled to welcome Consultant and experienced engineer, Geoffrey Kuek, to the CDSE team. Geoff brings with him a wealth of insight and practical knowledge, having worked in construction and design management roles on major road, rail, and tunnel projects in Victoria and Western Australia.

After graduating as a Civil Engineer in Perth and working on the control system upgrade for the Graham Farmer Tunnel, Geoff worked extensively on the Metro Tunnel Project in Melbourne as part of the Cross Yarra Partnership. He was Design Manager for the State Library and Town Hall stations, and then Project Engineer for the Town Hall Station works on Campbell Arcade and Degraves Street Underpass. Geoff’s favourite aspects of the project were taking the Town Hall Station works from design all the way through to construction, and dealing with the challenges of major works in a busy and congested part of Melbourne CBD.`

During his involvement in both design management and construction on major projects, Geoff observed the communication issues that arose when multiple people contributed to the decision-making process. He recognised how vital it is for stakeholders to have someone who can provide all the valuable information and provide solutions. Geoff believes that building trust and maintaining close-out driven relationships makes an enormous difference to the efficiency of the design space.

“Having on-the-ground voices feeding into design and construction, ensuring that they are represented in the work is so important.”

Geoff believes that asking a lot of questions is the key to making a real difference on a project; enquiring and discovering what exactly is driving people to make (or not make) certain decisions is crucial.

“I want to understand not only the engineering side of things, but the people side of things.”

Geoff decided to join CDSE Consulting because he liked the company’s vision of working for the end user and people-focus. Since joining CDSE, Geoff loves being able to feel assured in what he is delivering, knowing that when he is working as a consultant, he has access to the full CDSE team in the background. Geoff is currently supporting McConnell Dowell on the Swanson Dock West Remediation, managing the piling works on the project.
